We're proud to be part of Bristol's Skyline
31st August 2021
Bristol is truly a city of landmarks, the architecture on display forms the backdrop that gives our city its unique feel. At Autograph Homes, we believe the character and culture of the city are inextricably tied to its buildings, telling us stories of its past and shaping the future. Go for a walk in Bristol. You'll come across fabulous monuments that span the ages, from the Greek-revivalist frontage of the Victoria rooms or the Cabot Tower's neo-Gothic grandeur to the monuments to Brunel's industrial legacy; Temple Meads Station or Clifton's iconic suspension bridge.
Yet residential architecture is where you'll find the beating heart of a city, the buildings where people live and go about their daily lives. As a Bristol-based developer, we're proud to be creating homes that contribute to the future of housing in the city. We believe a city lives and breathes when its residents have somewhere exceptional to call home, unfortunately, too many new developers only build identikit houses that offer no individuality to the community. As any Bristolian will tell you, this is a city of many parts, with each district possessing a unique character, culture and charm. At each of our developments, we’ve worked hard to create homes that sit side by side with their neighbours, comfortably at ease.
The Old Library, Cotham
Cotham is a cosmopolitan residential area that boasts the longest street of independent shops in the UK. This neighbourhood is full of grand Victorian townhouses and gorgeous leafy avenues. The surrounding architecture inspired us, and the exterior building materials and design of the Old Library fit effortlessly within the streetscape. With a casual glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking this was a well-preserved Victorian construction. Yet, inside these properties are all modern, with basement parking and bike stores, integrated smart technologies, modern energy standards and elegant open layouts.
High on the hill, Totterdown boasts stunning views of the city. Famous for its iconic technicoloured terraces, this neighbourhood has a welcoming community feel, green spaces, an active arts scene (including the occasional Banksy) and many independent cafes, restaurants, and pubs. We're proud to have added Viewpoint to Totterdown's skyline, it’s design giving a nod to the area's famous multicoloured frontages. However, whilst these homes complement the architecture of the past, we've worked hard to ensure that they're fit for the challenges of the future too. By incorporating forward-thinking construction techniques and efficient green technologies, the household energy requirements of a three-bedroom home at Viewpoint are less than 10% that of a similar-sized Victorian home and as little as a third of a typical new build.
Midland Road, Old Market Quarter
Old Market Quarter is a diverse area close to the city centre. Home to thriving businesses and an award-winning night time economy, this area is rich in heritage, with stunning imposing architecture. Home to a range of diverse and inclusive communities, it is listed by The Sunday Times as one of the coolest places to live in the UK.
Right at the heart of the city, there's a real need for new, high quality, affordably-priced homes, which is why we've partnered with housing association Curo to deliver 32 new affordable homes at Midland Road. These properties are right at the forefront of sustainable development in Bristol. They will be linked into the Bristol Heat Network, a community heating network where residents benefit from lower heating bills whilst using energy that comes from lower-carbon sources.
