A milestone moment has been reached for the supply of new homes in Bristol as a new development of 100% affordable homes nears completion.

Delivered jointly by Bristol-based Autograph Partnerships and West of England housing association and housebuilder Curo, the development of 32 much needed new homes will soon be ready to welcome residents. Curo will let 16 of the new homes at social rent and nine at affordable rent through Bristol City Council’s choice-based lettings service, HomeChoice. Another seven homes will be sold through the affordable homeownership scheme, Shared Ownership.

Situated right in the heart of the city, in Midland Road, and built on a brownfield site allocated by Bristol City Council for 100% affordable homes, the new development is providing good quality one-, two- and three-bedroom homes where they are most needed.

Councillor Tom Renhard, the Bristol City Council Cabinet Member for Housing Delivery and Homes, joined the managing director of Autograph Homes, Simon Taylor, and the chief executive of Curo, Victor da Cunha, for a tour of the development.

The new homes are among the first in the city to be connected to the Bristol Heat Network, providing future Curo residents with affordable, low-carbon heat and energy. The innovative network of underground pipes is being installed in Bristol as part of the city’s net zero carbon targets. The network connects local energy centres, including biomass heat pumps and gas combined heat and power plants, resulting in more efficient use of fuel and lower emissions. The heat is drawn from different sources such as the river, and underground geothermal.

Leading the site acquisition and planning process,  Richard Clarke, Land and Planning Manager for Autograph Partnerships. says:

"Bringing these apartments to fruition with Curo will make a huge difference to 32 Bristol families, offering quality, contemporary style yet affordable and sustainable homes in this vibrant part of the city. We are very pleased to have partnered with Curo and look forward to future projects together where we can help bring much needed affordable homes to the market.”

Victor da Cunha says:

“We’re delighted to be able to make these new affordable homes possible in the centre of Bristol, helping to create and support integrated, thriving communities. This development will make it possible for many local people, including essential workers priced out of Bristol, to live in the city they love, close to work, family and friends - whether it’s by renting affordably or buying low cost housing through Shared Ownership. We’re looking forward to welcoming our new residents soon.”

Cllr Tom Renhard, Bristol City Council Cabinet Member for Housing Delivery and Homes says:

“It’s exciting to see this central Bristol site being transformed into an attractive and sustainable collection of new affordable homes. These homes are a crucial contribution to our ambitions for increasing the availability of affordable housing in the city and I pleased to see the commitment to sustainability in the scheme, supporting our intention to move towards net zero carbon. I welcome the work of Autograph Partnerships and Curo in delivering homes for a new community who will feel very much at home here.”
