Autograph Homes demonstrates its commitment to sustainability

17th October 2023

Autograph Homes recently welcomed Home Builders Federation (HBF) representatives to our latest development in Bristol, The Haw Wood. Keen to demonstrate their ongoing support for the SME building industry and to hear about experiences in bringing forward new developments, Emma Ramell (Head of Policy and External Affairs) and Laurence Thompson (Policy and Campaigns Assistant) from the HBF met and talked in depth with the MD of Bristol based Autograph Homes, Simon Taylor. Accompanying Emma and Laurence were local Labour Parliamentary candidate for Filton and Bradley Stoke, Claire Hazelgrove, and local Charlton and Cribbs Councillor Sam Scott. With delays in the planning process a continuing sticking point for SME builders, all were keen to hear from Autograph Homes how the construction of new homes in the South West could be accelerated.

A report published in September by the HBF has shown that the number of planning permissions being granted across England for new build houses has continued to fall sharply during the second quarter of the year, continuing the downward trend of the last two years.

The Haw Wood development stands as a beacon of low-carbon living, showcasing the latest advancements in sustainable technology. Simon Taylor, MD of Autograph Homes, emphasized the commitment to reducing household energy emissions, aiming for an impressive eco rating of SAP A for energy use and environmental impact, along with an EPC Efficiency and Environmental rating of 100+. The homes at The Haw Wood feature state-of-the-art amenities like air source heat pumps and the innovative Powervault P4 storage battery. These technologies work in tandem to store and optimize renewable energy, effectively reducing energy costs for residents.

Additionally, the homes incorporate high-output PV panels, underfloor heating powered by the heat pump, low-energy LED lighting, and oversized thermally insulated windows to maximize natural light. Efforts to conserve water are also integral to the design, with fixtures like aerators reducing water use by up to 25% annually. Furthermore, the inclusion of electric car charging points aligns with Autograph Homes' vision of holistic sustainability. The development proudly includes eight affordable homes alongside spacious three and four-bedroom family residences. Emma Ramell from the HBF praised the dedication of regional SME builders in providing essential homes, boosting local economies, and creating job opportunities. Claire Hazelgrove, a local Labour Parliamentary candidate, lauded The Haw Wood for its emphasis on sustainable and cost-effective living. Councillor Sam Scott commended the project's integration of community spaces, wildlife habitats, and allotments.

In conclusion, Simon Taylor emphasized Autograph Homes' unwavering commitment to sustainable homebuilding, offering homeowners a unique opportunity to embrace a low-carbon lifestyle and take a responsible stance towards energy consumption.
