Councillor Tom Renhard, the Bristol City Council Cabinet Member for Housing Delivery and Homes, paid a visit this week to the site of one of the first new homes developments in the city to be connected to the Bristol Heat Network.
We invited Cllr Renhard to visit the site at Midland Road, in the heart of the city’s Old Market area, where we are delivering 32 affordable homes in partnership with housing association Curo.
Situated right in the heart of the city on a brownfield site allocated by Bristol City Council for 100% affordable homes, the new development is providing good quality homes where they are most needed. The majority of the one, two, and three-bedroom apartments being delivered will be let to people on Bristol City Council’s housing list – 16 at social rent, and nine at an affordable rent. Curo will sell another 7 apartments through the affordable home-ownership scheme, Shared Ownership.

“Being linked into the Bristol Heat Network will bring an important environmental element to the already high level of sustainability built into the development. With low carbon heat and energy, residents will benefit from lower heating bills compared to a conventional system thanks to the innovative Bristol Heat Network.”
Cllr Renhard said, “As a city, we are committed to playing our role in enabling the delivery of new, affordable homes. This is a top priority of the current administration, as we work towards our ambitions to be building 2,000 homes a year, of which 1,000 are affordable, by 2024.
“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to visit this scheme, which is delivering 100% affordable homes. I welcome the discussions I am having with Autograph Homes to understand their experiences of getting homes built in the city, along with their future aspirations. We want to see more developers coming forward with sufficient levels of affordable housing in their schemes and I am pleased to see Autograph Homes stepping up to that challenge.”
The brownfield site development is scheduled for completion in Quarter 1, 2022. At Autograph Homes, we are committed to low carbon living.
